Getting ready for the holidays!

It may only be September, but we are busy planning for the holidays at the Reinhart Guest House! We are looking forward to the fall with Halloween and Thanksgiving and then winter and Christmas time! Stay tuned for more details and dates as we firm up plans. Throwing it back to holiday celebrations of 2016; we can’t wait to see what 2017 will bring.

Santa and Mrs. Claus joined us for our annual holiday party last year and we are so excited to have them back this year!

The doors of the Reinhart Guest House were adorned with beautiful wreaths last year made by wonderful members of the community. We are so excited to see what will decorate our home this year. More details to come! Below are a few of the beautiful wreaths we were lucky to have last year.

To share your story (it can be submitted anonymously or include your name) email Katie or send us a message on our Facebook page.

Here is a recent story from Anne Pulley who spent 38 nights with us over 14 visits this year. We have had the pleasure of getting to know her this summer. Thanks for sharing Anne!!

“Words can’t express how much this Home and the people who are here have meant to me. My husband was admitted to St. Marys on May 24th. Three surgeries later and some time at getting his strength back. We will be going to our Home in the next week. We will be back later this year or next year for another surgery he needs. This Home will be waiting for me. It helps me in so many ways to know the people who are here always know you and do everything they can to help your stress be manageable. Also my husband has been sick all this year. Many nights I slept in his room in a chair at other places. Bless you all. Bless this Home.”

“Our deepest thanks to Katie and the great staff at Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House who made it possible for us to be near our son in St. Marys Hospital this past week. The accommodations were pleasant and comfortable and we were treated with the best of care and empathy. We left for home with peace of mind one day before our son was released.” — Wayne and Jane

Whether it’s a note sent after they head home (an excerpt from a recent one above), a thank you after a meal provided by an organization from the community, or a gift that will be enjoyed by everyone who comes through the House; the notes and stories we receive from families speak volumes to the mission of the Reinhart Guest House. We love reading and sharing them!

“After a horrible week, this dinner was the bright spot of kindness and caring. Thank you so much, this means a lot.” — Brenda

“This was a very nice surprise. I had no idea we might have a wonderful group prepare an Italian dinner for us. A great big thank you to those generous and thoughtful folks!” — Bill

“We feel the warmth of home here!” — Yi

This beautiful piece of art was given to the Guest House and recently hung in our living room. The how and why this art came to us … simply … it is the healing ministry of the Reinhart Guest House.

To see a note from the artist of “Beholden” on the meaning behind the piece, visit us on Facebook and Instagram. This beautiful gift will be treasured for years to come.

Help us reach our Endowment challenge goal!

Good help feels like home.

“Many things, great and good, start with a dream. Dreams provide us not only with the rest and revitalization, but with ideas hope and even our destiny. But dreams are not enough. It takes hard work, careful planning, generosity and sacrifice to bring a dream to fruition. I know of no other path.” – Bill Reinhart, son of Evelyn D. Reinhart

In the spring of 2014, the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House was dedicated in the presence of donors, Bon Secours leaders, volunteers and community guests. On that day of celebration, an important stage in the continuum of care and a vital element of the ministry of hospitality at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital joined together.

Since welcoming its first guest on June 9, 2014, the Reinhart Guest House has served more than 3,200 families in need, offering not just a home away from home, but also a sanctuary of compassion for caregivers and families of patients at St. Mary’s.

The Reinhart Family Foundation made a heartfelt gift of $1 million to name the Guest House in honor of their beloved mother and wife Evelyn D. Reinhart. In 2016, Bud Reinhart and family established the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House Endowment by making an initial investment of $250,000 and challenging the Bon Secours organization to raise $500,000, which will be matched at a rate of $1 per $2, resulting in another investment of $250,000 paid to the fund. The challenge must be met by December 31, 2017. The $1 million dollar endowment will help sustain the Reinhart Guest House operations for years to come.

How can you help?

Include the Reinhart Guest House Endowment at St. Mary’s Hospital in your giving plans.

Naming opportunities at the Reinhart Guest House are available with an endowment contribution.

Wonderful week of dinner groups!

Comments Off on Wonderful week of dinner groups!

We were so blessed this past week to have 3 wonderful groups come to cook for our families and one of our guests brought dinner too! We’re so glad to have these groups be a part of our mission.

On Sunday four wonderful ladies from Glen Allen Worship Center came to the house with an early Thanksgiving feast for our families! This was their first visit to the house and we look forward to having them back. Everyone raved about the dinner and loved chatting with these wonderful ladies too!

On Monday we welcomed back a group from Bank of America. Our guests were so thankful to have another home cooked meal after a long day at the hospital.

On Tuesday our friends from St Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral returned to the guest house with a summer salad themed dinner. We always enjoy having this church at the house, they always bring good food!

On Wednesday a sweet guest brought lasagna with her. It went very quickly! We appreciate the support so much and are so thankful to have these wonderful groups be a part of the Reinhart House family!

Notes from our guests

We love hearing from our prior guests! Here are a couple notes we have received this past week:

My wife had back surgery on June 23rd. We live over 2 hours from Richmond. The Hospital made arrangements for us to stay here in the Reinhart Guest House. Beautiful, clean house, the staff couldn’t be any nicer (sweeter than sugar, all of them 🙂 ) walking distance to the Hospital, perfect! I miss you guys but glad we’re home! Glad and grateful for this service y’all provide. God Bless you all!

Steven B. from Harrisonburg, VA spent 6 days with us in June 2017

So convenient to the hospital as well as warm and welcoming, this guest house has made my stay way from home during my husband’s surgery a true blessing. I hope in some way to pass on this positive experience to someone else in need. — Pat L. from Fredericksburg, VA spent 3 nights with us in August 2017.

A home away from home. Enjoyed being here. Everyone so sweet and helpful.

Steve and Shirley M. from Mineral, VA spent 2 nights with us in August 2017.

Have you or someone you know stayed with us? If you have and would like to share your story with us send it to us! You can mail it to the guest house, 1100 Libbie Avenue Richmond, VA 23226 or email it to Katie. We look forward to hearing from you!

Come volunteer with us!

Comments Off on Come volunteer with us!

Since opening in June 2014, the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House has supported more than 3,200 families! With only 6 staff members, we are dependent on dedicated volunteers who are sensitive to the needs of our families.

Our wonderful volunteers help us by writing thank-you notes to the families who stay with us.

Volunteers can support the Reinhart Guest House mission in a variety of ways! Some of these include helping us answer phone calls, manage our welcome desk, greet and support family’s daily needs, perform light housekeeping duties, write thank-you notes, prepare meals, support administrative projects, and much more.

We love having school groups such as these boys from Glen Allen High School volunteer at the house!

We have volunteer opportunities for school groups, individuals (students and adults), families and friends, coworkers too! We would love to have you.

These two wonderful families cooked a delicious dinner for our guests one night!

For more information about the volunteer opportunities, please contact house manager, Katie DeMaio at 804-287-7392 or Additional information and our volunteer application can be found on our website: Reinhart House volunteer opportunities and Volunteer Interest Form.

We look forward to hearing from you and would love to have you volunteer with us!
