Comments Off on A new addition to our volunteer program
Our families recently enjoyed some visits with our furry friends from the pet therapy program at St. Mary’s Hospital. We are so excited to have these wonderful therapy dogs and their parents join our volunteer program at the Reinhart Guest House! Many of our families are missing their own furry family members who had to stay home while they are with us. Visits from therapy dogs help to lessen their stress and worries. The dogs love the attention as well! Thank you to Peggy and Judy and Kim and Clifford for stopping by. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
In this season of Thanksgiving and always, we are grateful for the amazing volunteers who help turn the Reinhart House into a home for our families during their time with us. This past week we have had some incredible volunteers come through bringing meals for our families, making cards, and helping with some cleaning too. We appreciate your support of our ministry so much!
On Monday the wonderful employees from Bank of America stopped by with dinner for our families. Bank of America employees bring dinner once a month to the guest house! Incredible!
On Tuesday our friends from St Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church brought a delicious Greek dinner for our families. This wonderful church also comes once a month to feed our families. We love having you all!
Wednesday morning brought more returning volunteers. Students from the Steward School come each week to make breakfast for our families. What a great group of students!
Students from St Bridgets School stopped by on Wednesday afternoon to help with some cleaning around the house. They also baked cookies and made some wonderful cards to put on the guest beds. Our families appreciate these notes so much.
It was breakfast for dinner on Wednesday night with a feast prepared by the wonderful ladies from the Telecommunications Department at St Marys Hospital. We always enjoy having these ladies at the house!
Students from Glen Allen High School came by Thursday night and brought dinner for our families. These boys have been coming once a month since we opened the house in 2014!!
The meals mean so much to our families. A note from one family after a recent dinner: “Truly a blessing, not to wonder or worry of where to eat instead of the hospital cafe or out somewhere. Cheerful voices and smiles bringing some joy to what is happening at the hospital with my daughter. Thank you.”
This is an excerpt of a note that was left by a guest in our journal over the weekend:
“Saturday, Nov 11, 2017
The Reinhart House of Angels. You all have given my husband and me a sense of peace when we didn’t have any. I feel like you have helped me to breathe when I felt like I couldn’t. It’s difficult to put into words our gratitude and appreciation for this place. This is the hardest thing we’ve ever been through. It’s unimaginable. Thank you for everything! We are forever grateful and love you all!”
Another family wrote:
“Heading for home this afternoon. We (my wife and grandson) had the pleasure to stay at the Reinhart House while our daughter was recovering from surgery. What gracious hosts and a beautiful place to stay. We will always think graciously and speak highly of the staff here at Reinhart House. Saying thank you is not enough.”

Thank you to Carreras Jewelers for helping us honor one of our wonderful volunteers! Since her first day in June 2016, Christine has delivered her very special brand of comfort and support that is truly one with Bon Secours. As a prominent radiologist with a distinguished career, Christine certainly has a unique understanding of both sides, especially understanding the stress families endure when a loved one receives a difficult diagnosis. Christine may be small in stature, but her larger than life personality, heart, and commitment have endless capacity! She will take on any task regardless of how complex or time consuming, always exhibiting positivity and an eagerness to take on more. We are grateful for her friendship and clear desire to make this home the best it can possibly be to all we serve. Christine’s activities are as varied as her skills, and they include: answering the Guest House phone with her lovely English accent, being the face of our mission for every new guest and visitor, writing beautiful notes to every departed guest, light housekeeping, administrative projects, guest services, and much more. We could not do what we do without her. Thank you, Christine, for your dedication to our community! Congratulations again on this wonderful recognition, it is well deserved!

“Katie went above and beyond for my family when we needed it the most. Thank you for everything!”

“Preparing to head home to NY tomorrow morning. My stay here at Reinhart House has been the most nurturing experience I’ve had in a long time. The roller coaster emotional ride coping with being a mom who had to relinquish control over the wellness of her daughter could have been so much worse if I had to stay anywhere else. The wonderful staff especially Katie and Lida made me feel looked after. The beautiful, cozy room, the generous volunteers, the variety of spaces to sit and reflect, and delicious meals offered in fellowship all contributed to easing my spirit. I am forever grateful and in awe of this place. Warmest regards and sincere thanks.”

“In September 2017 my husband needed surgery on his back that required a 3 night stay at the hospital. Because it’s about a 2 1/2 hour drive to our home from St. Marys I was able to stay at the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House. It was such a blessing to have this home away from home, a place to escape to when I wasn’t needed at the hospital, to grab a bite to eat, to just refresh and relax before returning to the hospital. Many thanks for providing a haven during a challenging time.”

“Thank you so much for such a beautiful spread and variety of food. It was just the perfect comfort we needed after having been in the hospital all day and had no dinner. Bless you! Thank you!” — Nancy

Our friends from the Telecommunications department at St Marys prepared a feast of comfort food on Wednesday evening!
“A pleasant and welcome surprise! Having spent a long day of anxious waiting in the hospital, it’s been comforting to sit down to a home cooked meal while in the company of folks that made us feel welcome. I’m thankful for everyone’s hard work to provide this meal. May God continue to bless each of you.” — David
Rounding out an incredible week of meals was a kickoff to tailgate season with a dinner made by the wonderful volunteers from Markel.
These meals mean more to our families than you will ever know. A home cooked meal after a long day at the hospital brightens the days of not just our guests, but also families from the hospital who may not be eligible to stay with us but are tired after a long day of waiting.
